After a long year of injuries and setbacks, #1 prospect Nick Senzel will finally play in a professional baseball game for the Cincinnati Reds.
It felt good to finally write that.
Senzel will play center field and bat second in tonight’s lineup against the San Francisco Giants. More than that, he is the first coming of the Reds’ new era under Dick Williams. He’s the first top 3 draft pick the Reds have taken since Chris Gruler in 2001. (Don’t Google Chris Gruler.) The most recent Reds hitting prospect that received this much hype was Jay Bruce, who turned into a great player during his time in Cincinnati. Senzel has the potential to be even better.
He’s on an 18-game hitting streak, and will look to revive a dead offense as soon as possible. It will be nice for the Reds to have a fresh young face in the lineup that can hopefully hit, hit and hit some more. It will also be nice to not argue about things like service time when discussing Senzel. The Reds also face another last place team this weekend in the Giants, and with Senzel making the jump they will hope to gain some momentum and start reeling off some wins to get back into contention.
This season has already had more things to be excited about than any other year since 2013, and this will only add to that. Good luck, Nick! Let’s bring playoff baseball back to Senzinnati.
